Barack Obama’s criticism of Trump’s Iran policy raises a question the administration should answer: has this conflict made Americans safer, or created more problems that Americans are now paying to fix? At his October 24 campaign appearances, Obama defended diplomacy and argued that the war had strengthened Iran’s leverage over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. That deserves a serious response. What were the original objectives? Which have been achieved? What has the operation cost? And what is the plan for ending it? Those questions matter more than another speech about strength. Military families live with the consequences of these decisions. Civilians face the danger. Taxpayers deserve a clear accounting. I want evidence that the strategy works, an honest assessment of its failures, and leaders willing to explain their choices without treating scrutiny as disloyalty. If a war creates new emergencies, managing those emergencies should not automatically count as victory. The public deserves an explanation that holds up beyond the next press conference.
