How are we still doing this 🥹 Yes, this will work for some people. But as blanket advice it’s terrible and does not look at the whole picture. Activity level. BMR. TDEE. Muscle mass. Hormones. And oh yeah… your SANITY. Years ago when I was competing… I spent MONTHS at 1100 cals and 2x workouts a day 6 days a week (lifting + the dreaded stair master) I could never get below 129lbs, and my coach just kept saying I wasn’t ready. I got on stage, did terribly (even though I looked amazing), and then rebounded and gained 30lbs in 3 months and supercharged all of my eating disorders. Fast forward… I’ve been in a deficit for about 4 months, never went below 2200 cals, and dropped from 136 - 124lbs. My physique isn’t where I want it yet, but I am playing the LONG GAME where I get the physique I want and maintain my sanity in the process. A TDEE calculator is a good starting point, but you need to monitor your body and progress to find what is accurate for YOU. A calculator would tell me (5’4, 124lbs) that my maintenance is 2091cals, but because I’ve tracked MY data for over a year (on MacroFactor, the 🐐) I know it’s closer to 2600. That’s a big difference. I believe the best formula is: movement you enjoy (I dance, I don’t do steps or stairs 🤢) lift heavy things (even 1-2x a week is wonderful, I only do 3)…fuel your body, and have PATIENCE. This shit does not happen overnight, no matter what the 12 week programs on the internet tell you. I am always around if you have questions or wanna chat.
