Media Selective Interpretation of Reality — A Philosophical Definition It is a way of presenting the world in which the media select facts, interpretations, and contexts to create a specific image of reality, not necessarily reflecting its full complexity. It involves highlighting information consistent with the accepted narrative while omitting information that could challenge it. Philosophically, it is a form of selective cognition in which truth ceases to be an end in itself and becomes a tool for shaping public opinion. The recipient then receives not a complete picture of events, but a selected interpretation that can influence their judgments, emotions, and beliefs. The essence of the phenomenon: it is not always necessary to lie to distort reality—sometimes it is sufficient to only discuss facts that fit a specific narrative. In short, media selection of reality is the art of shaping the image of truth by selecting what is shown and omitting anything that could alter its meaning.
