@theanthonyvets: Abscesses typically develop following penetrating wounds, bite injuries, or foreign body migration, resulting in localized infection and accumulation of purulent material. Treatment generally involves incision and drainage, exploration of the wound, removal of devitalized tissue or foreign material, and copious lavage. Adequate drainage is essential to prevent premature closure and recurrent accumulation. Analgesia and sedation or general anesthesia should be provided as indicated. Antimicrobial therapy should be guided by the severity of infection, presence of systemic signs, wound characteristics, and culture and susceptibility results when indicated. Follow-up evaluation is important to monitor healing and identify persistent infection or underlying foreign material. #veterinarian #veterinarianlife #vetmed #vetmedicine #vetmedlife
