SCARBOROUGH, MAINE, UNITED STATES 🇺🇸 —A Maine laundromat owner says she was shocked to discover that footage she believed was being filmed for Republican Sen. Susan Collins appeared in a campaign advertisement supporting her Democratic opponent, Troy Jackson. Kelly Kusnirack told journalist Steven Robinson that a videographer approached her at her business in the spring and asked her to participate in a political video. She says she agreed because she believed it would support Collins, whom she plans to vote for. Months later, Kusnirack says she saw the footage in an advertisement supporting Jackson, prompting her to speak out publicly. “I am not a Troy Jackson Supporter at all,” she said. “I definitely feel like I was misled because when did I finally see the ad I was like, ‘Oh wow, look at that banner, Troy Jackson.’ I was surprised to see that it was for Troy Jackson. Totally did not expect that.” The advertisement was paid for by the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC, an independent political spending group supporting Jackson. The ad discussed economic concerns in Maine and criticized Collins. Kusnirack said she wanted voters to know that her appearance should not be interpreted as an endorsement of Jackson. “If they’re willing to mislead me, how far will they go? And when will it end? If they’re willing to trick me into being in one of his ads, they’re willing to trick you into voting for Troy Jackson. “These are dirty tricks, and I think Mainers deserve better. I want to set the record straight: I am voting for Susan Collins,” she said. The Jackson campaign and the PAC had not immediately responded to media requests for comment when the story was published. The available reporting does not independently establish whether the videographer intentionally misled Kusnirack. The incident adds another dispute to an already closely watched Maine Senate race, where campaign advertisements and political messaging have become a major focus ahead of Election Day. #KellyKusnirack #SusanCollins #TroyJackson #MaineUSA #japd
