Delayed cord clamping is so standard I’ve only clamped immediately about 2-3 deliveries out of 100+ and those babies needed immediate respiratory support at the warmer.

That’s crazy to me because we had our hospital tour Sunday. The charge nurse of the labor and delivery unit was available to answer our questions. Delayed cord clamping is standard practice. Birth plans (if we print them) are on the first page of our chart, otherwise it’s written on the board for everyone coming in to see.

I’ll be honest, as a NICU nurse at a delivery, I get so worried for that baby that’s not really vigorous. But I’ll be damned if I’m gonna say anything about cutting that cord unless that baby is limp and doing nothing! If they’re trying to get to vigorously, we can wait!

Honestly, this is my biggest fear for my daughter’s delivery. She’ll only have her husband in the room, and he’s going to be overwhelmed. Most of the time it won’t matter, but just in case there needs to be a non-parent in that room who will advocate for mom, dad, and baby.

They said it must be discussed before delivery, then when they said "its on our birth plan" WHICH IS A DISCUSSION BEFORE DELIVERY and she said they don't DO birth plans?!

My son was an emergency csection at 32 weeks and even then they documented delayed cord clamping. He was on respiratory support for 5 days and in the nicu 52 days. He’s now a wonderful 9yo!!

Wilddddd, I never had to ask they asked if I had a preference and said they do 30-60seconds automatically. That was in 3 different hospitals! With my 3rd that sweatheat doctor ask if I wanted to cut the cord lifted my fat chonk baby right on yo to me and handed me the scissors.
