My dad passed away in April of this year from alcoholic cirrhosis. He drank daily for 50 years. It was rough watching him decline. The encephalopathy and swelling from ascites was terrible. He got aggressive at the end and he had to be completely sedated until he passed. I urge everyone to not drink.

Does constant drug use also do the same thing?

Your videos are always so informative! The way you break down and explain medical information is top tier. Very much a shame that TikTok’s algorithm has suppressed your content recently.

Dr. Wolfe, is it true that testing AST and ALT levels is not a good indicator for liver disease? My understanding is when those levels are elevated, there is acute injury, but someone who has chronic liver disease, those levels may very well be normal.

Dr Wolfe I have a question about PEs. I heard it is often an incidental finding at post mortem. Is this your experience?

I never realized alcohol was a true poison until I watched a YouTube video that shows the path and chemicals the body has to convert alcohol to in order to metabolize it. I was also surprised how much longer it takes to get it out of your system than most people realize.

What does inflammation look like on a cellular level ? I picture swollen cells of fluid but I’m sure that’s not correct 🥺

Liver disease killed my dad. It also killed my grandfather on my mother’s side. Both were booze bags so I think there’s a moral there somewhere.

I feel for you having to try and explain complex things to the numbskulls that are floating about on this app.
