@vibedistrictclips: An 18-year-old from Warrenton, Virginia has built a water filter that removes over 95% of microplastics from drinking water, outperforming most municipal treatment plants. X Mia Heller, a student at Kettle Run High School, started the project after reading a local news report about PFAS and microplastic contamination in her town's water supply. With no government funding available for a fix, residents were told to find their own filtration solutions. Her design uses a reusable magnetic oil called ferrofluid, which binds to microplastic particles as water flows through the filter. A magnetic field then pulls the ferrofluid back out so it can be reused, instead of thrown away like a traditional filter membrane. In testing, Heller's prototype removed 95.52% of microplastics from water samples, compared to the 70% to 90% typically achieved by standard treatment plants. The project earned her a $500 award at the 2025 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair, and she's now working toward professional verification before taking it further. #fblifestyle #Viral #Science #vibedistrictclips
