I think people are forgetting it’s okay to feel bad for both of them. Lucien has been a fae his whole life and mates are cherished so he’s holding on hope. Where as Elain has been through so much trauma that we don’t even know the full depths of because we haven’t read her chapters. Should she have atleast told him she was seeing others? Yes but once again we don’t know her pov or how she feels so until we do you can’t completely critique her choice not too yet

sometimes I feel like people are forgetting how sacred mating bonds are for fae. And “rare” apparently. Though they feel common, not a lot of fae experience them. Lucien grew up fae. He thought his last lover was his mate— and watched her be butchered by his brothers. Then finds out she wasn’t his mate, but that Elaine was is likely pretty jarring. Yes, Elaine owes him nothing. But Lucien is struggling. He wants to get to know her. Talk with her. Something. It isn’t even sexual at times. Hell, he won’t even touch himself to the thought of her because he things it’s wrong and unfair to her. And honestly, out of all the males in the ACOTAR universe. Lucien is the most respectful. He’s trying to be better. I really want Elaine to find herself, I hope she does with Mor. But my heart hurts for the both of them 😭 (Sorry this was long)

She didn’t answer because she doesn’t love him in a romantic way, and she cried because she’s lowkey betraying them all by being dishonest. She is using Azriel and Azriel is in a way using Elain too. They are both lonely and desperate people. Elain is aware of what she’s doing, but I think Azriel is too depressed to understand his feelings towards Elain. For now it’s just desperation and lust. I think Elain has ties to koschei. That’s why Az shadows avoid Elain, that’s why Erobos also said he can’t get close enough to koschei to spy on him, the shadows can’t get close enough. I seriously think Elain knows something she’s not telling the IC because maybe she thinks she can do something about it on her own to help OR some evil is threatening just her and she can’t tell anyone about it.

People out there saying that her not answering the question and then saying elriel just feels so fast and forced in the same sentence doesn’t make sense at all!! Also she specifically said “ I thought I had a future with azriel…..” like bro sure if Elain and az didn’t having actually raw feelings for each other they won’t be throwing out these words for nothing . Like how can people think the azriel who said “ he will pursue her mate or no” will magically fall in love with someone else within the next two books which are a part of a long story as sjm stated .

I think expecting her to be in love with anyone at this point is absolutely ridiculous lol. She has had months of back to back trauma and has been told from the moment she came out of the cauldron this guy she doesn’t know who helped put her there is her soulmate now. Telling her to agree to be with him forever or reject the mating bond (which is a gift from a god btw,) and spend the rest of her immortal life without a mate is INSANE

THIS!! my husband and I started as a weird physical situationship when we first met. if you would have asked me if I loved him after hooking up (if you can even call them barely making it to third base hooking up) I WOULD MOST DEFINITELY NOT HAVE ANSWERED YES! it took time for us to sort out our feelings, learn how to communicate, etc and now I cannot imagine myself with anyone else ever again

I think the fact that we didn’t get much context for their relationship in this part is intentional. I think we will get all of that from Elain’s pov. We know how Az feels and got some stolen moments from the two but nothing of substance. I can’t wait to see what happens.

I think bc it’s Lucien she’s mated too people want her to make a decision but if she had been mated to Az from the beginning people would totally give her a pass about making a choice and taking time. She’d still be going through the same trauma and loss, it’s just the mates that’s different which people have different opinions on

I feel awful for Lucien, but I feel worse for Elain. Forever the invisible sister who has everyone dictating everything for her. I'm questioning if she even likes gardening or baking or if she just does it because it's all she's been ALLOWED to do. constantly treated as delicate and fragile and told what she can or cannot do, while also forgotten and left out of everything. then Lucien plays a part in her landing in that cauldron, robbing her of the one thing she did choose for herself (her fiance), and once again being told she has only one choice. that scene at the dinner table after bryaxis, when Nesta and Mor kept putting food on her plate for her...i wanted to scream for her. I don't blame her for a damn thing. I feel like we're about to see deep female rage play out.
