@reecesidequest: American egret, how long will it take to catch on? #birds #birding #greategret #namechange #wildlife

Jacob :

man, we got fucked over in naming. Great White Egret is so much cooler than American Egret

🌈🧚‍♀️🪲 :

White Greg and American Greg wow

,, ☁️💫⋮ meowsoda ⋮ 🧸🌀 ,, :

It’s better bc now we have 2 of them

Jack :

Why do ornithologists do this 😭. How are calls and breeding plumage enough to split them into two species rather than just subspecies?

runningperson142 :

A Meg and Gweg

:D :

Nah please don’t make me have to identify a white bird with a nearly identical white bird 😭 the number of dang indistinguishable gulls man, bot egrets joining the club

Peege :

I saw like 8 gregs (now American egrets) at Seney National Wildlife Refuge

hanna 🐥 :

RIP GREG

🐝swarm of bees in disguise🐝 :

no, we have two great egrets! Yay!

zaq buchanan :

AMEG AND GWEG WELCOME TO THE PARTY

Super observant Carl :

I love egrets

Jase’s rattery & rabbitry :

Do genetics back this up? Because minor breeding plumage differences and differences in calls don’t seem like enough to justify splitting thrm without genetics showing a noticeable divergence

finchbird :

Still heartbroken about this

MardensGarden :

Gweg

Raz The Egret :

ah damnit

MavRatt 🍉 :

omg... Greg..s

Autumn Sunshine :

AMEG vs GWEG?????

i’m aLex 🌀🪲™ :

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

i_rate_ragebait • Enemies :

genomic sequencing has been getting faster and faster with each passing year, makes me wonder if they’ll ever use that in these species splitting decisions

Charlie :

Greg

mrmrannoying :

Noooo i wanted the great white egret 😭

Leo :

💚 eisor 💚 :

dontknowwhattoputman :

Great White Egret? You mean, Gweg?

Paleo guy :
