@fada_ebubedike: POLYGAMY HAS NO PLACE IN THE CHRISTIAN IDEAL OF MARRIAGE Pastor Israel Ford of LifeWorks Church in Wickliffe, Ohio- USA, publicly introduced his second wife, Minister Shakayla Talley Ford, during a Sunday church service on October 25, 2026. Many are using the Old Testament to justify his actions. 1. Based on core Christian teachings and values, and in the light of the New Testament, POLYGAMY HAS NO PLACE IN THE CHRISTIAN IDEAL OF MARRIAGE. The New Testament is foundational to Christian doctrine because it reveals the New Covenant established by Jesus Christ and the authoritative teaching of His Apostles. While the Old Testament records polygamous relationships, recording a practice is not the same as prescribing it for Christians. Christ Himself directed us back to God’s original design for marriage: “The two shall become one flesh” (Matthew 19:5). He did not present multiple wives as the Christian model. The standard is a faithful, exclusive covenant and total mutual self-giving between one man and one woman. 2. The matter becomes even more serious when those entrusted with spiritual leadership introduce practices as acceptable Christian doctrine when they contradict the Church’s understanding of marriage and then go ahead to call it the Will of God. St Paul writes: “A bishop must be irreproachable, married only once…” (1 Timothy 3:2). Although this passage specifically addresses qualifications for bishops, it reflects the seriousness with which the New Testament treats marital integrity in Church leadership. A pastor’s title, popularity or public declaration does not make a teaching biblical. No minister has the authority to redefine Christian marriage to suit personal circumstances. Spiritual authority is a responsibility to teach the truth, not a licence to manufacture doctrine. “For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths.” 2Tim.‬ ‭4‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ The faithful must therefore evaluate every teaching against Scripture and the authentic teaching of the Church, rather than accepting it simply because it comes from a pulpit. 3. In the Catholic Church, marriage is a sacred covenant, and a valid, consummated sacramental marriage between baptized persons cannot be dissolved by any human power other than death (Canon 1141). A Catholic cannot simply take another wife while his first valid marriage remains binding. If his wife dies, he may marry again; if the first marriage is declared null by a competent Church tribunal, he may be free to re-marry, provided no other impediment exists. We must not confuse what biblical figures once practised with what Christ calls His Church to uphold. The Church must defend the sanctity of marriage, and no pastor should be given a free pass to present personal choices as Christian doctrine. THE GOSPEL MUST JUDGE OUR PRACTICES; OUR PRACTICES MUST NEVER BE USED TO REWRITE THE GOSPEL. #fadaebubedike #catholicism #catholic #catholicfaith #viralvideo
