@saraly734: Hmong With Nou Lesson 8: ai, Word Family Hello, hello! It’s Black Rose again! This is a short video about the double vowel in the language of Hmong in the dialect of Mong Leng. Please remember that the Mong Leng language is a tonal language. A tone marker appears at the end of the word creating a special sound. In the Hmong writing all words do not write as compound words that makes the writing unique. So read the story below to find out what sound “ai” made. Vowel: ai These words have no ending tone: consonant +vowel= word ai, word: sai, fast, deer; Cai, name of a person (male), the law, manners; ntshai, scare, afraid A non fiction story to help you understand the terms above more in depth. Ib zaaj keeb kwm Mong Leng sau txug Cai yog ib tug tub paub paub cai hab fwm txuj cai. Leej txiv has tas, “Kuv tug mi tub Cai mas yog ib tug tub kws paub paub cai le. Tsi laam tau laam tua tej sai ua dlog ua dlig le. Nwg ntshai ntshai txuj ca.” Cai has tas, “Txuj cai yog ib txuj ruj ruj heev tam sis, nwg yog ib txuj zoo zoo cai lug tiv thaiv peb txuj kev hlub tej tsaj txhu.” A story in English about Chai is a son who is well behaved and respects the law. The father said, “My son Chai is very polite. He has respect for wild animals like deer, he will not hurt it because he respects the law.” Chai said, “Our law is a harsh law, but it’s a great law to protect the animals that we love.” Thanks for learning Mong Leng with me! Have a happy day!
