@genzbusinessanalyst: A 74-year-old barber who had run the same two chair shop for 46 years taped a sign to his window saying he would be closing at the end of the month. His landlord had raised the rent to $2,400 and he could not cover it on what he made cutting hair for the neighborhood. He had never raised his own prices past $15 because most of his customers were kids and old men who could not afford more. One of those kids was now a 44-year-old man who owned a construction company two towns over. In the 1990s, when his single mom could not afford haircuts, the barber had cut his hair for free every month for six years and told him to pay it back when he was somebody. He walked in a week before the shop was supposed to close, handed the barber a signed lease with three years of rent paid in full, about $86,000, and told him he was somebody now. The barber took the sign down that afternoon and is still cutting hair for $15.
