Honestly people dont appreciate how brilliant and revolutionary shipping containers are. I am a historian who has dabbled in maritime history for a research project and i was blown away by the photos of stevedores unloading traditional cargo-ships. It was so inefficient by today’s standards it almost feels alien.

Difficult :
One interesting consequence of shipping containers is that modern sailors have far less time ashore than their ancestors centuries ago, because the unloading process is much faster.

That’s why I’ve been slowly digging up my back yard, see I live in Florida so when climate change inevitably floods Florida my property will be reclassified as a deep water port

Are there ports in Africa that *could* be dredged to serve container ships, like Texas?

why not have offshore ports connected by floating bridges. I'm not an expert but wouldn't it be similar to a oil rig or something

Jebel Ali port in Dubai is the same, the UAE has a very shallow coastline and so they dredged a single alternating one way channel in and out of the port to allow ships with a deeper draft to enter, and they built breakwaters as well.
