@osulas: 🐄 Sometimes a calf needs a little extra help getting started after delivery! In this video, Dr. Pospisil will cover the basics of reviving a newborn calf including positioning, clearing the airway when needed, and stimulating the calf to encourage breathing. Knowing how to respond when a calf isn’t breathing normally can make a difference in those critical first moments. 🫁❤️ ⚠️ If a calf isn’t breathing or is only gasping, seek immediate veterinary assistance. Avoid hanging calves upside down, as this can interfere with breathing. #CalvingSeason #NewbornCalf #CalfCare #Cattle #largeanimalvetmed

I’ve given mouth to nostril cpr. Grab in a way that shuts the mouth and one nostril, blow in the other. Just did this a couple weeks ago and saved one. Is it kinda gross, yes. Is it worth saving a calf, also yes.

Great info!! I use oxygen from my cutting torch, has worked for me when it gets to that point, thankfully with good bulls, trouble calving is getting rare.

I keep some oxygen on hand and give stressed calves some O2. It is a game changer. I use the boost bottles.
