And this is why people need to stop taking extracurriculars so seriously in high school… it’s not meant to be serious, it’s meant to be an outlet, to help you develop and learn skills, and for some be a safe place to exist. That’s a great teacher

Some people DO need the musical. My best compliment as a HS teacher/director for 32 years was from an average actor on his last day of senior year. He shouted at me from the far end of the foyer, “Mr. C! You change kids’ lives!” That’s why we do it, right?

I remember as a kid doing a school musical where there were too few roles for the amount of kids so every speaking role was double casted. But instead of having them switch out with each other both would be on stage at the same time next to each other switching between lines like that stereotype twin-speak trope.

When I wasn’t cast in my high school production Ies mis and I heard a rumor that someone dropped out I showed up to rehearsal and they were like “yeah sure ok” so I feel this haha

my choir director in hs didn't hold auditions for a similar reason. if you wanted to sing, you were in, no questions asked. it was amazing and a lot of people (myself included) benefited greatly from that. we learned to sing, found community and a shared passion.
