You won’t get that at big box stores. Only at quality lumber yards. Armatures shop the big box

Just don’t buy wood that’s close to the center. It’ll warp. Tightness of rings does but doesn’t matter. Mainly looking for more vertical rings. The more vertical a ring the more stable the board. The closer to the center or the more rainbow action you get, the more unstable it is

Go to an actual lumber yard for good quality wood. Wood needs to acclimate to different temperature and humidity levels in your home depending on grade.

My local lumber yard carries framing lumber that is far, far superior to any big box store. I can walk straight up to a stack of 2x4’s and just grab as many as I need without checking them. The entire stack will be perfect. If I go to Menards, Lowe’s or Home Depot about half or more of the studs in a stack are complete trash. I charge more when customers get their lumber at a big box store because I have to fight it. A dollar more a stud at the local lumber yard is always cheaper than my extra labor.
