@scott.austin.martin: You can see your partner trying and still feel too exhausted to trust what’s changing. Maybe you wanted this effort for years. Now it’s happening, and instead of relief, you feel grief. Anger. Uncertainty about whether you have anything left. That doesn’t erase their effort. Their effort doesn’t erase what you’ve been carrying either. If you’re the person changing, can you keep taking responsibility without asking your partner to recover quickly enough to reassure you? If you’re exhausted, can you acknowledge what you see without promising affection, forgiveness, or a future you aren’t ready to promise? Neither person has to abandon themselves. If you both want to explore what’s possible, start smaller: “What would help us both feel more supported and respected this week?” #relationships #menscoach #nervoussystem #communicationtips #relationshiptips

When the pursuer is at its max and asks for separation then, he changes immediately and does everything I ever wanted him to do. But I don't feel anything 😭, he is being incredible but can't connect, because I feel I'm out, but I want to give him a chance because I know he is an amazing man, it just might be a bit too late? 😢😭

so I'm the burned out one. he is finally changing in partnership ways (being better about the house, kids, etc). which I am happy for. but emotional connection still isn't happening. if I try, he doesn't want to talk or he just...doesn't say anything. but yet, because he's doing more household/child care things, I'm expected to be forgiving and happy about everything.

I’m changing not for the relationship but for myself. If the relationship recovers, cool; If it doesn’t, cool. I’m not going to focus on people and things I can’t control.

oh wow, this is exactly right. Hit the nail on the head. Hubby is changing and wants re-assurance and I'm exhausted and feel spent on this whole thing. I don't think I have an ounce to give.

Resentment builds when one is always giving and the other isn’t.. Once the other starts to change its really a work in progress to over come the resentment and believe the change in genuine.

I DONT WANT TO EXPLORE ANYMORE!!! Now I’m just here and ready to go when the time is right. But also I know that if I’m ready to go it’s not cool for me to keep this relationship going….i wonder if this is how men feel and if that is the reason why they put woman through so much BS.

I am doing the work for me and he is just telling me that I am the problem. How am I the problem? He doesn't know. I hate him and want him to get away from me.

That’s where we’re at. I’ve been exhausted for years. I see effort but it does nothing for me.

Sometimes the person who spent years/decades trying to make the relationship work finally wakes up and sees it’s impossible. They were ahead of the partner the whole time and deserve to be trusted without being forced to “wait” for someone to change enough to stay for. It’s OVER for the person who tried so long. Let them go! This post makes it seem like you have to keep waiting. But you don’t. Trust your gut. Leave if that is the right thing to do. Teach people watching this that the slow one that just started doing the work that letting the exhausted one go is the kindest thing you could do. It’s an act of love. Keeping them waiting for you to “get it” is cruel.

My husband is starting to change but us still trying to put the blame on me. My tone is wrong, I’m saying mean (true) things. I’m not discussing things with him anymore. (Because he always says no and nothing ever gets done). I’m to blame apparently but I’m doing all this because of terrible 25years of behavior

Yes I was the exhausted partner. I saw the efforts after 2 yrs of hurt but he still gets disrespectful and so explosive that it’s not worth it. It’s draining and I’m done being the one to try to fix things. I don’t want to carry this anger.

I’ve been truly incapable of finding the words to describe how I feel, which has led to more frustration. But this video hit the nail on the head as far as finding the right words. 🙏

I don't trust the sudden personal "growth". We've been here before. As soon as I am drawn back in to him, he goes right back to the old ways and starts hurting me again and blaming me for it.
