@intels5: In a study of 573 people, 40.2% said they would save their own pet over a foreign tourist in a hypothetical emergency. Researchers changed the person in danger from a stranger to a friend or relative, and also asked what participants would do if the animal belonged to someone else. The responses depended heavily on personal attachment. Only 12.6% chose another person’s pet over the tourist, while just 2% chose their own pet over a sibling. The study measured people’s stated choices in imagined situations. Source: Anthrozoös.
