And for some reason the GC and owner don’t wanna wait for the site specific control drawings that the electrical contractor has to still redesign and vet prior to install but we should “just pull the wire” lol

AutoZone still uses decades old blueprints with outdated Venstar systems that want 11 switches for 11 lighting zones, to 'save' money and comply with California Title 24 garbage. They're LEDs. They're basically free.

And after all that work, and all that time, and all that expense, the components will be obsolete and non-replaceable in about 10 years at most.

people were so confused by this, but obviously in commerical building you don't want a wall with 20 light switches that control everything. you want a Lighting control system where you program certain lights to come on both by time, presence, being turned on. the building owner doesn't want to pay their employees to walk around flipping light switches.

Then add the energy efficiency sensors that dim lights that are closer to windows and the cost of the whole system doesn’t start to pay for itself until everyone involved in the project is long dead. Stick to simple on/off switches and maybe occupancy sensors.

Don’t forget about the fire alarm interface that always gets missed.

So glad Siemens only had a brief stint in lighting controls. It was such a pain in the ass and there was no way I could tackle both lighting and the mechanical controls at the same time.

As a Signguy hate the lighting control. Nobody ever knows how to turn the shit on. I waited 3 hours at a JCPenney‘s for them to turn the sign on.

I’m an electrician. The trades are f’d. common sense is dead. The problem is the education of programmers lacks actual practical knowledge

As a 45 year electrician/electrical contractor. This is bullshit in its finest form. The controls are 💩, the cost is 💩, support is 💩, parts after a major power surge is costly as 💩 and no one in the building can program or maintenance the 💩. It doesn’t save any energy and with today’s LED’s you’ll never get your money spent back.
