@mimisocials: Real parenting isn’t just about making life easier for your children. It’s about preparing them to handle life when you’re no longer there to guide them. If you have a parent who has sacrificed silently for your future, appreciate them while you still can. You may never fully understand how much they’ve done for you until you become responsible for a life of your own. 🥹❤️

I’ve seen this story dozens of times, and I always have the same question: why not just tell the kid ‘we’re going to charge you rent, but we’ll put part of it aside for when you’re ready to move out’? That would save a lot of stress and still teach the same lesson about saving without looking like a titanic douche.

My parents took my dowry money after telling me they would sponsor partial of our wedding hall (even after me insisting on having small events only), so they can invite their friends instead of our family 🤷🏻‍♀️in the end everything came out of our own pocket for a day that's suppose to be special for me but end up being a bitter memory for myself

my parents never spoiled me with financial allowance early, mom just bought biscuits and treats for my snacks at school she never gave me money not until I was in high school but only 20pesos, 10 pesos for the fair back and forth to my school (5pesos one way) so my allowance really just 10 pesos.. then in college I was given 100 pesos per day, 40 pesos for fair from my university to home back and forth (20 pesos one way) so my allowance was only 60 pesos for lunch and snacks but i sometimes don't eat so i can use my allowance to pay for the group contributions during laboratory activities or handouts and printout payments, so i don't have to ask my parents money for that.. then I learned to save even in the littlest money i had, and i spend it on special occasions. I learned budgeting and independence at a young age, I wasn't spoiled. I had to earn my things thru good grades, was a dean's lister. and graduated with an award of excellence in thesis, couldn't receive colors distinction because of one subject but it was ok.. passed the boards on a single take.. oh and by the way my parents could afford a higher allowance because I was the youngest and my brother is already earning on his own (seafarer, 2nd officer) and both my parents have stable jobs, our home is owned and a car, but they never spoiled me, we have a car hut my parents wanted me to commute so I'd learn independence.. now I am very appreciative and grateful for even the little things.. I'm a licensed nurse at a public hospital, I chose to work here in the Philippines despite many offers to go abroad, declined all of them because my main reason is I want to take care of my parents, to be there when they need me and to be present for my kids as well because I always want to witness their little and big things firsthand.. now I spoil my mom and dad with things they need and want, not because they spoiled me but because they taught me the value of humility and independence, not being handed the silver spoon and not being spoiled.. they made me grateful for everything.. I am a volunteer aswell on medical missions, I also volunteer to train BLS and First aid for students and employees. i give back ☺️

i've learn to pay bills on time every month because my family have financial struggles growing up. the bills was always past due, reposition letters always arrived at the house. as a kid i was always scared that we are going to be homeless or have no food. so i studied hard, got a good paying stable job, then i always make sure I paid everything first thing when I got my pay. because of that trauma, now i have excellent credit score.

Discipline and obedience is so hard to do when young. None of us do not understand what our parents want for us but we have to obey it. Until we reach adulthood and finally understand what they want for us. Apparently, we learn NOT right away. (English is not my 1st language, I hope I'm doing sentence all right 😂)

I wish upon every star in existence my parents had been like this. when I turned 18 my parents said you pay rent or you get kicked out. OK not much choice so job it is. they set me up with a friend of theirs that owns a small landscaping group, just him as boss and 4 guys including me. I worked 12 hour days 5 days a week and got paid 200 a week. didn't get to keep any of it, it was collected every week for rent. finally quit because the job was awful backbreaking work and im immediately kicked out without any chance to find a different job. 10 years later I find out that the friend was also their dealer and I had been offered out as a serf for a massive discount on product that they were then paying for with the money i brought home. They kicked me out because I cost them their effectively free ride. 😞
