Replying to @Lovva.grrl.05 2D vs Tomo ➡️ Why distortion matters in breast imaging 📸 On a 2-D mammogram, distortion can look real… but it might just be overlapping tissue. This is especially common in dense breasts, where normal fibroglandular tissue can mimic distortion. 👉 That’s where tomo (DBT) comes in. Tomo slices the breast into thin layers, so overlap is minimized. If distortion is truly present, you’ll see it consistently across slices. If it disappears when scrolling, it’s just tissue overlap. 📊 What studies show: • Distortion seen only on 2-D has a low chance of being cancer (often <10%). • Distortion seen on tomo has a much higher chance of being real, with 30–40% proving malignant. • Tomo also reduces false positives by up to 15–20% compared to 2-D alone (Oslo Tomosynthesis Screening Trial). ✨ Take-home: • 2-D distortion = overlap or real? Needs more workup. • DBT distortion = much more likely to be real. Always worth a closer look with compression views + ultrasound. That’s why correlation across modalities is KEY in breast imaging 🩻➡️🔍➡️🖥️ #b#breastsonographym#mammographyt#tomosynthesisu#ultrasoundbreastcancerawareness
