My mom used to save all the things I get her for a special occasion. I said in a tone that she used to use when chastising me as a kid "I don't buy you things hoping they sit on a shelf and collect dust. You better use them." that's what made her see it differently.

Thats the way. Love aggressively and put thing in place, get her electric bill info and pay the account under guest login. Take her out to lunch while hubby brings in and sets up the gifts in the home. She deserves it and you're a WONDERFUL daughter and human. 💖
