An Open Letter to Instagram and Meta Dear @instagram and @Meta I'm writing this publicly because privately, nobody seems to be listening. My account was suspended. The reason I was given: my profile, or activity on it, "doesn't follow our Community Standards on account integrity." That's it. No specific post. No specific action. No human explanation. Just a vague sentence and a link to a policy page. I'm told I have until April 29, 2027 to appeal. That's a long runway for a decision that took an algorithm a split second to make. Here is what I'd like you to consider. 1. Vague accusations aren't justice. If I can't be told what I did, I can't fix it, contest it, or learn from it. A rule that can't be explained isn't a rule. It's a guess with a login button. 2. Automation without accountability is a problem. I understand that at your scale, billions of accounts, you need AI to help moderate. I'm not against technology. But a tool that flags is not the same as a judge that decides. When AI is the accuser, the jury, and the judge, mistakes aren't a bug. They're guaranteed. And the people who pay for those mistakes are creators, small businesses, and ordinary users. 3. Our accounts aren't just "profiles." For many of us, Instagram holds years of photos, memories, friendships, client messages, and income. Suspending that without a clear reason isn't a minor inconvenience. It's erasing a piece of someone's life. 4. The appeal process should feel like a conversation, not a void. People deserve a real human reviewer, a response timeline, and a clear outcome. Not an auto-reply. Not silence. 5. Trust is the real product. You can build the best features in the world, but if users feel they can lose everything without warning or explanation, they stop feeling safe. Over time, they stop feeling loyal. What I'm asking for, respectfully: - A clear explanation of which rule was broken - A human review of my case - A faster, more transparent appeals process for everyone - Better checks on automated enforcement, so false positives are caught before they cost people their accounts I don't want to be your enemy. I want to be your user. I just want the platform I've spent years on to treat me like a person and not a probability score. To everyone reading this: if this has happened to you too, share your story, comment below, and tag @instagram and @meta. If enough of us speak up calmly and clearly, maybe someone will finally listen. Sincerely, A real human being, still waiting for another one to reply. #FixInstagram #HumansOverAlgorithms #AIModerationFail #AccountSuspended #MetaAccountability
