@news.studio2: Ex-NBA Player Malik Beasley Expected To Plead Guilty In Federal Sports Betting Case Former NBA player Malik Beasley is expected to plead guilty in a federal sports betting case, according to The Athletic. His attorney, Steve Haney, says Beasley is scheduled to enter the plea in Brooklyn federal court on Dec. 9. ESPN reports he had been negotiating with prosecutors, but had not yet signed a plea agreement. The case goes back to June. Federal prosecutors accused Beasley, 29, of manipulating his performance in some games during the 2023-24 season with the Milwaukee Bucks. They allege others used that information to place bets. Beasley was indicted with five other men. They include former NBA player Edward Davis and player agent Paolo Zamorano. The Justice Department says the charges include wire fr*ud conspiracy, bribery in sporting contests and money laundering conspiracy. Prosecutors allege Beasley told Davis he planned to underperform. Davis then allegedly passed that information to co-conspirators, who placed bets. One example involved a Jan. 26, 2024, game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Prosecutors say Beasley told Davis he planned to record fewer rebounds than expected. He finished with three, one below his betting line. The Justice Department alleges the group placed fr*udulent bets totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. After the indictment, Haney said an indictment “is not evidence.” He asked people to reserve judgment until all the facts were known. Beasley played nine years for six NBA teams. He last played in the NBA in 2024-25 with the Detroit Pistons. Do you think players who fix games should be banned for life? #malikbeasley #NBA #sportsbetting #federalcourt #basketball
