@conscious.app: Norway is the first country to propose banning smart glasses in public places. On October 5, Norway's government said it will seek a temporary ban on smart glasses in places like parks, beaches, malls, museums, concerts, schools, playgrounds, gyms, pools and doctor's offices to stop secret recording. The ban isn't law yet and still has to pass parliament. It would last while experts write permanent rules, private use would stay legal, and exceptions are being weighed for groups like blind users. Oslo, Norway's capital, banned the glasses in schools in August. One party wants sales banned, and Norway's consumer watchdog urged stores to stop selling Meta's glasses, made with Ray-Ban and Oakley. Meta owns Facebook and Instagram. Meta's glasses have seen people filmed without consent, Kenyan contractors reportedly viewing intimate footage, voice recordings stored with no opt-out, recording lights people paid to remove, facial recognition plans and lawsuits over misleading privacy claims. Meta scores an F. Find alternatives to big tech companies on the Conscious Spend app.
