few parents have the combination of ability, opportunity, patience, and discipline to properly educate children.

question - how does home school build stamina for school and work later in life? There is going to come a time when your child is going to need to get up before 10am and work more than a couple of hours a day. 🤷‍♀️

Public school helps kids learn that everything isn’t centered around them. They learn from different teaching styles, and learn to be more compassionate for kids who come from different backgrounds. They learn to respect authority from multiple sources and engage in teamwork. They get different perspectives than just their parents. They are learning to be disciplined and to manage time and deadlines.

Ok but then homeschool kids should have to take the same state and standardized tests. Parents should have to become certified in teaching. And all curriculum should be educationally sound and mot based in religion at all. Fair?

homeschooling was the norm for most of civilization. public education is a 150 year failed experiment.

For homeschooling, a parent has to be able to stay home.

I’m so sick of the homeschool vs school debate. Just do what’s best for your family and stop judging people for their choices.

I’m sure that most parents have at least Masters Degree proficiency in chemistry, physics, biology, trigonometry, calculus, history, and English. No problem. What could go wrong?

The benefits of the classroom are not just socialization and they outweigh any home schooling experience

we home schooled both our kids, they both have amazing jobs, and a world view that none of their friends have, their kids go to a private Christian school, as it was the best choice next to home schooling

My kids have a great social life and have never been to public school. Between extra activities, like dance and baseball.

I was homeschooled most of k-12 and I was a little socially awkward. Not sure if that was natural inclination, but got over it fast as adult. I was in all kinds of programs though. Homeschool co-op, self defense classes, and Boy Scouts. After certain grade you don’t really need a teacher. Probably middle school, to highschool I did it by myself. Went to college and was a little behind in math, but 98 percentile in reading and reading comprehension when they tested that. Just make sure you report to the local school board, my mom didn’t and had to catch up, and do an accredited highschool program. Mine was American school of correspondence. Third generation in my family. I would have graduated when I was 16 but wanted a gf so went to public for a bit. Finished it out when I was like tf am I doing here.

I was at the library with a homeschool family after school with my four kids. Guess which kids were yelling at the top of their lungs, destroying things, asking inappropriate questions, running around, not listening….not my traditionally schooled kids.

I started homeschooling after working a year in the public school system. I encourage parents to volunteer. It’s eye opening.

I am a public school 5th grade teacher. I think whatever is best for the child. I am so glad there are options for everyone. That being said, I have a scholar this year who has been homeschooled his entire life. He cannot read past a 1st grade level, cannot write/recognize some letters and cannot do basic addition or subtraction. So I’m all for homeschool if it what’s best for the child, but it isn’t always the best option.

Public school was never about educating our youth, it was designed around the cadence of the assembly lines and factories. It conditions children to follow the rules of the authoritarian (teachers/principles) without asking questions because questions equal insubordination or "being difficult" which is harshly punished. They teach them how to he good, compliant workers. Thats why creativity and individualism is stripped from children before they enter middle school.

We homeschooled my youngest son throughout his middle school years because we traveled the US in our RV. His learning confidence exploded, reading skills multiplied insanely fast and his general skills increased exponentially because he wasn’t boxed into conventional learning. We (child included) chose to go back into mainstream high school so he could go to vocational school (in our town they have to be enrolled in the school to be able to be enrolled in voc). We all are extraordinarily grateful for those three years of homeschooling: how much it opened our eyes, giving him room to learn in his own way, find out his weaknesses weren’t weakness after all, etc. I really can’t recommend it enough, even if you only do it for a few years.
