The individual voluntarily surrendered it and claims that they forgot that it was there. And we don't have anything to prove that otherwise. So the news suggesting that this person tried to sneak it through is awfully irresponsible reporting, and seems like it might set themselves up for libel

I once carried a double ball mace on my carry-on. They let me through security, but then a few police officers in the UK accosted me and asked if I knew what was in my bag. I said yes and that I get them as a souvenir at the Edinburgh castle. They let me on the plane, with the mace. This was in 2005 mi d you. Not sure that would fly today lol.
