@bookswithamanda212: Holy misinformation. I don’t want to assume anyone’s intent when it’s not made crystal clear, so I’ll give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but when a young white woman, who was a nursing student, was just publicly recorded telling people to go back to their own country, it’s sort of an odd time to defend a position that is objectively false. The research and data proves that you are less likely to receive quality care and treatment if you are not white, poor, and/or disabled. Those are the facts. Let’s speak out of facts rather than personal emotions when it comes to things that can cost people their lives. #healthcare #progressive #misinformation #medicine

Pretending that bias doesn’t exist is a choice.

I’m a paramedic and I recently saw a study that showed that people of color often get less pain management for the same long bone fractures in EMS. It absolutely happens

It’s not just unconscious (or sometimes conscious) biases either. Sometimes it’s the limits of the machines/techniques. I work in radiation therapy and we have to treat people lying flat, stable and still. We need to be able to move and adjust people. If someone has limitations to these things it can affect their care because we don’t really have (good) workarounds.

Yep for example I have sickle cell and I suffer a lot and I get looked at as a drug seeker whenever I request high level pain meds to help with my severe crises. But it’s not only me a lot of the sickle cell community document experiences like this and don’t forget sickle cell is primarily a *cough cough* black person issue, when you look at percentage of races affected.

I did my capstone in PA school on black maternal morbidity and mortality. I met with my advisor to go over the rough draft and she said “I wish you would’ve went more into the biology behind it”… I said that’s the whole point. There’s no biology behind it. It’s ultimately just racism😭 like did u even read the paper??

it was only within the last two decades that they stopped using an adjusted egfr for African Americans. the adjustment was based on a debunked study that african Americans have lower kidney function at baseline. that adjustment meant that african Americans were given falsely lower function results which in some cases removed them from transplant registries

when I was in nursing school just 12 years ago, our text books STILL had misinformation about how different races and cultures feel/show pain

He's completely unwilling to take anything about it on board. We had a fairly lengthy exchange about recording while driving SINCE this has been posted. I left comments trying to explain this from a white Christian POV because that seems to be his POV, but he didn't respond to those. It frustrated me that those notifications had to be right on top of each other, and he chose to address the driving vs the medical impact of implicit and explicit racism and sexism. It's cheap.
