Mads!! :
i know jackson personally. he's an experienced hiker, even hiked most of the appalachian trail. they're both studying to be mountaineers. the negative comments aren't necessary until we know more.

They are nearly 100% dead if their tent is abandoned and there was snow. They overestimated their experience by a lot. Experienced compared to not hikers and experienced compared to qualified hikers are wildly different levels of experience. Keep in mind most guides have 10k miles and not a few hundred or maybe 1000 and say “they are studying to be a guide”.

the Colorado mountains are very very very easy to get lost in you can be hiking on a marked Trail you get above tree line and that trail basically disappears

Yeah I don’t think it will be the outcome we want. The tent is one thing but leaving the sleep bag and the stove.. that is odd. No sign of their packs or other camp/gear stuff? You wouldn’t leave with your pack but without stove or sleep bag.

Tragic. People who don’t spend much time in the mountains often dont realize one small mistake can be fatal. Hope they make it back. Finding the abandoned tent is not good

If they have survival gear and can make a fire and shelter they should be ok …. You can survive with a basic shelter under a tree root or rock with a proper fire and fire wall … branches make ok insulation so you’re not laying on the cold ground that pulls your heat, they are not great but would keep you alive. Prayers 🙏🏼 they are just hunkered down waiting for help to arrive if an accident happened or they just waiting out the storm.

Hall hiker should be required to wear some kind of AirTag. Some kind of tracking device to find them.

Did they study the weather reports? Sounds like a risky venture they were unprepared for.
