My limited understanding at the time led me to believe that I was to have this one way conversation with old fashioned words in an attempt for God to hear me and grant my wished like a genie. Thank God that is not true. I learned that prayer is merely a conversation with Jesus, much like a conversation I have with my wife, daughter, or friends. It involves me opening my mind ears and heart to look, listen and apply what my heart hears. I now ask Jesus to guide me toward His will for me. I ask for healings in myself and others as well as other things, but I no longer carry an expectation of my wishes to be granted. I now finally understand prayer to be wanting what I get instead of getting what I want. “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” — Colossians 4:2 In our busy lives, it can be easy to forget the importance of consistent prayer. Paul’s words to the believers in Colossae remind us that prayer is not just a routine but a heartfelt devotion that keeps us connected to God. When we devote ourselves to prayer, we cultivate a deeper relationship with Jesus, opening our hearts to His guidance, peace, and strength. Being watchful in prayer means staying alert to the Holy Spirit’s presence and God’s work in our lives and the world around us. It’s about sensing His leading and remaining attentive to His voice. A thankful heart turns our focus from difficulties to God's goodness, reminding us of His faithfulness through every season. No matter what challenges or joys you face today, remember that prayer is your lifeline to the Creator of the universe, source of hope, encouragement, and divine power. Let us renew our commitment to talk to Jesus regularly, trusting that He hears us and loves us unconditionally. Prayer Jesus, thank You for Your grace and love that never fail. Thank You for inviting me into a relationship with You through prayer. I ask that You help me to be more faithful and devoted in my conversations with You. Fill me with Your peace and give me a thankful heart, even in difficult times. Guide me to remain watchful for Your presence and to trust in Your promises.
