Durham Police were called just after 5.10am following reports of the incident near the Bowburn junction. The northbound carriageway was fully closed between Bowburn and Carville Interchange, while southbound traffic is restricted to the hard shoulder only. The lorry driver has been taken to hospital for treatment. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
