Despite what she intended, to most men that reads as "you are not exciting enough, or attractive enough to hook up or be fwb" the second part comes across as "I settled for you." which is NOT a compliment. Talking about hookups and fwb makes him begin to wonder how many guys WERE good enough to just "hook up" with or be "fwb" with...and how many of your current guy friends used to be FWB. She did him zero favors.

When you break it down, it’s a really backhanded comment. Let’s take the inverse, “I’d fool around with you but never marry you.” This implies they lack desirable traits for a relationship and they aren’t good enough to make one feel safe enough to settle down. So taking the statement in its original form implies a lack of desirable traits to fool around with and its other forms of traits that one would settle down for. An analogous statement in reverse would be like “I’ve dated pretty women before but they cheated on me so I’d never marry them, but I’d marry you”. I never said you weren’t attractive or pretty, but the implication is you’re not.
