@natlwomenshistorymuseum: We are deeply saddened to hear of trailblazing labor leader, feminist, and civil rights icon Dolores Huerta's passing at age 96. Huerta was one of the most influential labor activists of the 20th century and a celebrated leader of the Chicano Civil Rights Movement, devoting over 70 years of her life to advocating for workers and women. Her activism was ignited when she taught school in rural California in the 1950s and witnessed how many farm-raised children came to school hungry. This inspired her to help improve the lives of farmers and farm workers. After co-founding the the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA), the predecessor of the United Farm Workers of America (UFW), she later helped found the Coalition of Labor Union Women. Throughout her work with the UFW, Huerta organized workers, led nationwide boycotts, and advocated for safer working conditions. She also fought for unemployment and healthcare benefits for agricultural workers. Over the last few decades, Huerta has worked to elect more Latinos and women to political office and has championed women’s issues. In 2012, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and was an Honoree at our 2012 Women Making History Awards. “Sí, se puede,” Dolores Huerta, and it's because of you 🌹 #womenshistory #NWHM #DoloresHuerta

I'm saddened by this news. However, I'm happy she at least got to see the fall of her abuser, and her history flourish before her passing.

The world lost a great woman today, but campesinos and migrants lost a leader that never stopped fighting for their rights. Vuela alto Dolores, La lucha sigue!

If she happens to see Cesar on her way to where she goes next I hope she gets to say everything she needs to say to him.
