@sfmoma: Yoshitomo Nara | Coming Fall 2027 Solitude, vulnerability, defiance, and spiritual freedom. These are some of the themes at the heart of Yoshitomo Nara’s art, reflected in his iconic characters and his lifelong exploration of what makes us unique and what connects us to one another. The first major survey of Nara’s work in Northern California brings together around 100 works spanning more than four decades. The exhibition traces the evolution of his art, from the inner world of a single figure to broader explorations of empathy, connection, and care. Highlights include Voyage of the Moon (Resting Moon), making its debut outside Japan. -- Yoshitomo Nara, "Matryoshka" (detail), 2026; photo: Keita Saiki Yoshitomo Nara, "Voyage of the Moon (Resting Moon)," 2006; collection of 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa; photo: Atsushi Nakamichi / Nacása & Partners, courtesy of 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa #YoshitomoNara #SFMOMA #ContemporaryArt
