Hey guys, James from sunny California here, I have a bit of a good one for you, this truly happened to me and it’s reaffirmed my belief in something beyond us: I was a truck driver during the pandemic, nothing crazy or huge, just construction equipment, parts and attachments for large machines like excavators, skidsteers, etc. I had started with my company just before the outbreak and we were roughly 15 minutes from my house, which was great, the pay was good and I got to listen to podcast, audio books and so on while driving. It was also great because I was the only vehicle on the road for quite some time at the outset, I regularly would work dark to dark, starting my mornings around 5 at the equipment yard and would be heading home around 8:30-9 pm at the very latest, but mostly worked around 14 hours a day. As spring became summer our company bought property in Fairfield California, around an hour away from my home (54 miles compared to my drive which had been around 10 miles previously). This meant driving for an hour up and an hour back through some areas not well lit by the streetlights common in the southern parts of the Bay Area. I was pretty well used to the commute and numerous hours driving, for those keeping count it’s now 16+ depending on the day, and one thing to know about me is my voracious appetite for podcasts, audio books and the like is only rivaled by my love of country music. So one particular night it’s around 80 degrees Fahrenheit after the sun has dropped and I’m driving through Cordelia CA, about to climb the hill towards American Canyon CA, an area which, at the time, wasn’t well lit at all, those familiar will tell you there’s now new infrastructure which was built not long after my ordeal. As I began climbing the hill by Producers Dairy, I was driving with the windows down, music blasting, singing along to some Chris LeDoux - Hooked on an 8 Second Ride. Suddenly my Tahoe began to fail in a way that was like nothing I’d ever seen, I was fairly familiar with breakdowns as a truck driver and this was just bizarre. First it chugged like it was low on fuel, then the lights dimmed, which shouldn’t have happened as the lights and fuel
