Hello, mortals. I came here to write a respectable love poem. Carlos brought the dictionary. The purple goat brought a fire extinguisher. Looking back, only one of them understood the assignment. My heart belongs to this woman. My thoughts need a lawyer, a locked office, and somebody willing to say, “Sir, that is a grocery store.” I am a gentleman. Technically. I open doors, bring flowers, remember her favorite milk, and maintain eye contact with the determination of a man defusing a bomb while the bomb keeps adjusting its neckline. She asks what I am thinking. Nothing, my love. Just admiring your personality from an angle the church newsletter has asked me to stop describing. Then she smiles. My halo is currently on extended leave. Carlos closes the laptop. The goat checks whether the furniture warranty covers acts of romance. It does not. We have conducted research. She calls me handsome and suddenly I am standing straighter, speaking nonsense, and offering to carry things that are already on wheels. One compliment and I become a forklift with feelings. She says, “Come here,” and I arrive prepared to move a couch. Sometimes she wants a kiss. Sometimes the couch becomes relevant for entirely different reasons. Either way, my lower back would appreciate being included in the planning meeting. Before anybody gets offended, this is a love poem. There are flowers. There is emotional availability. There are also several sentences that should be read with the door closed and your brightness turned down. Balance, mortals. We are building a relationship, not applying for sainthood. She steals my sweatshirt, wears it while denying everything, then asks whether I am cold. Woman, I can see the evidence. Carlos says I need boundaries. The purple goat says I need another sweatshirt. Finally, some practical advice. At dinner she rests her hand on my leg and asks why I stopped talking. Because my last intelligent thought just handed in its resignation, sweetheart. Please allow three to five business days for a replacement. Then, while I am recovering, she asks me to pick up milk. This woman can go from questionable intentions to dairy management without changing her expression. I respect a professional. And yes, underneath the nonsense, I mean every tender word. I will clear the chair, listen to the bad day, remember the appointment, and make the coffee. I can have a filthy imagination and still know how to be gentle with somebody’s heart. Although if she leans over and whispers something while I am making that coffee, breakfast may experience delays. The toaster has seen enough. Carlos keeps calling this behavior inappropriate. Carlos also read the bookstore part twice and asked for the extended edition. Mind your business, sir. The goat has declined to comment until its attorney arrives. I want decades of this. Private jokes. Stolen clothes. A look across a crowded room that means we should probably find our coats. Growing old together while remaining a terrible influence on each other’s ability to behave. At eighty she will ask whether I still have those thoughts. Absolutely, darling. They have seniority now. We may need to finish our tea first, locate my glasses, and negotiate with a knee that predicts thunderstorms, but the enthusiasm has survived. That is devotion. Passion with a pill organizer. Loyalty with orthopedic considerations. A faithful heart and an imagination that cannot be trusted with a perfectly innocent sentence. So read the poem, mortals. Take your time. Enjoy the romance. Watch the furniture. And when you reach the last slide, please remember that I asked God for this woman specifically. Whatever conversation He wants to have about the results, Carlos is handling the paperwork. The purple goat has already eaten Exhibit A. #FilthyMindFaithfulHeart #LovePoetry #RomanticPoetry #SpokenWordPoetry #PoetryTok @NightWhisperWitch
