no bro, these 3 are areas of sound shifts. the languages are going by tribes: frankish, saxon, aleman, frisian, bavarian. even though in the middle ripuarian (middle-west) and saxon (middle east) are not even remotely similar.

I was under the impression Nordic languages along with English are / were related to 'High German', but based on the video it seems 'High' meant elevation (i.e. elevation towards the Alps) or Southern. I feel like I have something backwards here. Am I thinking of Northern 'Low' German in the context of northern linguistic evolution?

The term Germany has its roots in 2 Roman provinces, which were established 2 thousand years ago. A linguist might argue with the language, what German is, but there is more to be considered.
