@christasclimate: Im aware this is probably a consequence of echo chambers/ people being slightly out of touch when it comes to cost of living etc. I also am not saying that any of what I mention in this video is without criticism. But I fear some of us are letting perfect get in the way of good. #Sustainability #ai #criticalthinking #climatecrisis #literacycrisis
The whole ‘vegan except bacon’ is perfect and more of what the world needs

It’s all too performative, we should really be addressing the UKs decaying water infrastructure, we lose so much more through leaking infrastructure than from data centres

Someone had a go at me on here because they said they were boycotting Starbucks… even tho they worked there. They kept accusing me of suggesting they leave their job and it was elitist. At no point did I say leave your job, but you can’t boycott and show up to your shift and make the same company money 😂

extremists cannot compromise which leads to an all or nothing approach, invariably that means nothing. I have this argument with vegans all the time, of course I am generalising, but anytime I suggest that factory farming is an area a lot of people on both sides of the argument can agree is bad, the moment you suggest replacing them with more traditional or sustainable animal agriculture methods they refuse to compromise. the fact we could reduce the number of animals slaughtered, lower environmental impact and improve quality of life the remaining animals isn't enough, it just tells me that we are so fractured and entitled as a society that we are going to struggle to work together to improve it.

You’ve been doing this for a few years, a couple of decades down the line when things are worse despite incremental change for the supposed better and you realise, playing with the symptoms of problems never fixes them. We need to only accept fixes for the problem. Banning AI, banning fossil fuels, actual governance. Etc. if one side starts at the most extreme end, and everyone else dallies in the middle, then the compromise will always be closer to them, than to us.

To be fair I think people are just sick of it. They know as a country we have already done a great deal to reduce our global emissions and that today those emissions account for a very small proportion of global emissions. However it's not enough for some people it's never enough but instead of directing their opinions at the big polluters they turn in on the UK. It's shameful really. Maybe they should start with the EU who are still using over 200 coal fired power stations compared to our none.

could you try to clarify your point? Corporate aggregation of power is just like it is, and if somebody doesn't want to go with power-grab moves like privatizing water or replacing the Commons with generative AI is bad… because then they can't be paid to not buy meat? 🤔

Another problem with corporate sustainability is that sustainability can be used as an excuse. I used to work for an energy retailer and they did a push to switch to digital bills as opposed to paper bills. They said to their customers this was to save paper and the environment. They said internally that they’d be saving x amount of money per letter unsent because postage is expensive

People boycotted supermarkets yesterday over cost of living (which is a good reason to do so), but I've seen people say that others should just starve for one day, as its just one day. Completely ignoring that it was payday for much of the population and those with families may have just been getting by as is. Also they were saying to just "shop local", ignoring that some people don't have corner shops (or that the cost of those is too much) and some were even saying to just get a takeaway for one day??

I have had a moral objection, on some level, to every employer I have ever worked for. If you’re looking for a morally perfect employer, good luck. I can also say that while I’ve turned down jobs for ethical reasons I recognise I’m only able to do that because in my 40s and quite comfortable and established in what I do.

So often the Left would rather remain ideologically pure in opposition than have to deal with reality.

Literally the entire left atm. They refuse to compromise on anything if you’re not 100% morally correct on every issue. And will refuse to put on a united front against the right

I feel this is a very performative online perspective. They more often want to be right over the actual collective good. They don’t live in reality.

Environmentalists are always quick to point out that you cannot eat money, which is very true. Unfortunately, you also cannot eat principles.

Chicken Dippers :
For Cattle/Beef farming, the greenhouse gas aspect is a significant over estimate designed to draw attention away from the true cause of climate change - fossil fuel companies, air travel, etc.
The reason is they use GWP100 instead of the correct GWP* to measure carbon equivalent which treats methane emissions as one way rather than treating them as a cycle which they are in reality. Thus, believe it or not, farming can actually be carbon neutral and thus have no impact on climate change whatsoever when e.g. the number of cattle in a country isn't growing (like the UK)
