my mom had to to wake me up to tell me that my ex boyfriend/ roommate and lived together for 3 year so we were on good terms had gotten into a car accident running from the cops in tennessee. i genuinely have kinda of the the same reaction i said no and said my mom was a liar but as well with the room spinning. i cant even imagine how my mom felt having to tell me that hes no longer her, as someone’s that was like a son to him too wasnt here. i cant even imagine having to tell your kids that there dad ian at her because of his pain as well. i’m so sorry it’s genuinely so

just so yk we’re taught in social work that we need to be as clear and honest as we can using words they understand.

As someone who studied grief and bereavement in adolescence for yeeeeears before grad school, you did the right thing. You handled it perfectly. This is exactly what we would’ve advised. 🖤

My husband waited till me and the kids got home and did it in front of us. Only one of our kids weren’t home. He’s the one that’s taking it the hardest and is letting it take him down a very bad path. He blames me for most of it suicide is so awful a year and a half ago my husband pew pew himself after a long day of us getting home from work in school. The two kids that were here moved out now it’s just me and my youngest son. He didn’t just lose a dad that night though he lost his siblings too. I don’t wish it on nobody. I love that. You’re so very open one day I hope to tell my story.

Worst moment of my life is when I had to tell my son his dad killed himself. And it broke me when my 18 year old son was asking “why would he do that”. My prayers are with you and your family.

you did the right thing, I lost my dad when I was 16. my older sister was the one to pick me up from school which never happens and she made me guess what happened to who. it was terrible and so traumatizing.

You did the right thing. My husband’s first wife passed away suddenly and my step daughter was 10. He told her what happened. The truth and as hard as it was for them it was the right thing to do. You did the right thing. I hope your family is staying strong. ❤️❤️❤️

i just want to say, being honest was the best thing you could do. my dad did the same when i was 10 and if that information was shielded from me only to be found out later, i just know i would have began grieving alllllllll over again. so sorry for your loss.

I think about how my little 13 year old brother looked when I told him our mom passed away in her sleep the night before. It will stick with me forever. [Broken heart]

when I was 13 my Grandfather died in a horrible accident at work and suffered, no one told me for YEARS what actually happened and why we couldn't have an open casket.. I only found out from my extended family talking about it when I was around 17- it felt like grieving all over again bc I had no idea, you did the right thing❤️

My father shot his wife (after cheating and saying my sister wasn't his) then he shot himself. He lived for days afterwards but my mom didn't take me to the hospital. Thank you for being honest with them.

When my brother passed, they picked me up from an after school event early and made me wait at my uncle’s house for hours. Everyone in the house knew except for me I had seen an ambulance outside of our house so I knew something had happened and I just had to sit with that for hours until my dad finally came and told me. I wish they let me enjoy that school event. instead I was stuck in a house with a bunch of sad people.
