@learnativenglish: 🤫 English words aren’t always pronounced the way they’re spelled! When you are speaking quickly, especially for conversational English in a general American accent, these words have more syllables than we always pronounce. I only pronounce all the syllables for these words if I am speaking very slowly for emphasis. 🗣️ Conference often sounds like “CONF-rence” (2 syllables) 🗣️ Family often sounds like “FAM-lee” (2 syllables) This is called syllable reduction, and it’s very common in natural, spoken English! 🎧 Listen to the difference, then practice using each word out loud in a natural sentence. ✍️ Can you think of any other words with a syllable reduction? #LearnEnglish #EnglishPronunciation #SpeakEnglish #EnglishTips #AmericanEnglish
