@rewwfot: Rutgers' athletic budget reveals nearly $80 million in losses, raising concerns about the sustainability of college sports. This isn't just a Rutgers issue, as deficits affect all athletics, including non-revenue sports. What does this mean for future college athletics? Discussion time! #CollegeAthletics #Rutgers #AthleticSustainability #SportsEconomics #StudentAthletes

and this is the problem. people don't see. they see schools like Penn State that make profits, but they don't realize that a lot of schools in order to keep up are taking money from tuition while college is unaffordable

I thought Rutgers joined the big 10 for the lucrative revenue split

Students and prospective students and their families should NOT be responsible for what an athletic director and the president screw up by focusing al of their futures on an athletic program that can’t keep up! Raising the cost of college will never fix the problem because there is a wave going across this country that is proving you don’t need a college education to be successful and if prices keep going up in colleges, they won’t be able to afford it anyway!

Only 7 of the 16 big10 programs are profitable. UCLA lost $50 million last year and needed $30 million bailout from the academic side. It's unsustainable.

NIL has changed everything. Your alumni and donor base also impact how your athletic department operates. Rutgers shouldn’t be in the Big 10 as they can’t compete.

So 10,000 students because of school spirit at $75,000 revenue over 4-6 years is why it is sustainable and why they blow massive amounts of money on coaches

What is eventually going to happen? Is that conferences are going to leave the NCAA entirely and they’re going to start signing their own television packages with major networks the way the NFL does. Problem solved. Except that we will then have to pay to watch college football.

A super conference of the financially profitable school is probably on the way. The current system is unsustainable.
