@thrivewithrashid: There was a big part of me that just wanted to leave this as it was. I knew I wasn’t happy with this at all but I was like “meh, well at least I got through it”. But I also know that just leaving situations like these with a lower standard than what I’m used to is a sure way to never overcome my stutter. The thing with a stutter is that it has so many years of negative experiences associated with certain words/sounds. The negative experiences show up immediately when there’s some sort of fear. So I’m going out of my way to change how my body reacts to these words. Meaning I have to outweigh all the “bad” with good experiences. Even if I don’t want to, I still have to keep showing up and aim to do better. I left the hotel. Could’ve gone with the rest of my day but I stayed outside for a while gathered myself to go back in and say it again. Day 28/30 of not caring what anyone thinks #exposuretherapy #overcomingobstacles #showingup #discomfortisgrowth #stutter
I can’t even imagine waking up and the biggest battle I have to face is just being able to say my name. Well done Rashid for your perseverance and positivity for something a lot of us take for granted.

If you happen to be Muslim, I hope you can find comfort in knowing that Prophet Musa (pbuh) was known to struggle with his speech/stutter, hence the Du’a he made which is memorialized in the Quran and we say often. As a speech-language pathologist, you’re doing amazing raising awareness. Wish you the best in life 🤍

Rashid, as always, you did amazing. Maybe sometimes it doesn’t feel like it, but you are helping so many people with stammers get outside their comfort zone to grow and not feel ashamed. Very powerful!
