Noooo. If youre gonna trace a tiger trace a hardy, lehi, or horiyoshi tiger. Why mash a bunch of photos together to not get the correct anatomy or flow. Photobashing could work for using it as a reference but you would still need to draw it so you get the anatomy right. There are hundreds of resources online where you can learn how to draw.

Pro tip. Any full body animals or creatures or dynamic poses seek a little bit more traditional Japanese reference and you’ll notice all the good ones follow the give-and-take, the yen and yang. Try not to put both the front arms extended. One should be pulled back one should be reaching, same with the back legs. This will create more dynamic poses. Feel free to use any of my drawings. I draw a lot of large cats directly on and I try to keep this in mind even when draw dragons.

I’m traveling to work with an artist on my back piece,(I’m new to being tattooed, only have 4 tiny tattooed) and the artist got on a zoom call with me, went over the concept, and live drew the over all concept with me. Coolest experience.

Would you consider a client annoying to ask for a stylized version of a real life thing? And then drawing a stylized pictures themselves because you said it would be just like the reference? Idk I feel like I irritated my artist 😭

As a fine artist myself, who consumes a lot of tattoo content bc I have tattoos and am anxious to get more.. very few tattoo artists I see are skilled *artists* at all… if you can’t render forms accurately, don’t understand animal anatomy, or cant create unique designs of your own, you should not be putting art on anyone’s bodies.
