Let me explain further why I believe the songs Jungkook chose for his recent photo dump reflect his state of mind more than people might realize... If my previous interpretation seemed far-fetched to some, looking at BOTH Cyberpunk Edgerunners makes the parallels much harder to overlook. And this connection isn’t new for me… When Jungkook reposted an article about Edgerunners 2, I had already written: “What you think my filming means and what filming actually means to me may be two completely different things.” Let’s take a quick look at the storylines of both anime. The original Cyberpunk Edgerunners takes place in Night City, where powerful corporations shape people’s futures and dictate the price of survival. David gradually loses himself trying to fulfill other people’s dreams and expectations. Lucy wants something different: to escape that world and finally be free. They find happiness in each other, but finding what makes you happy doesn’t mean being free to live it. David becomes so consumed by protecting what he loves that he ultimately sacrifices himself. The expectations he carries threaten everything he wanted to preserve. HOW MUCH OF YOURSELF CAN YOU SACRIFICE BEFORE LOSING THE VERY THING YOU’RE FIGHTING FOR? Now, Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 takes us back to Night City, but with an entirely new cast and a different story, centered on revenge, redemption, identity and the desperate need to make your existence mean something. Two character are particularly interesting for this analysis: •Weak, a former legendary edgerunner struggling to find his purpose after losing everything that once defined him (makes me think of Jk saying he’s lost his colors…) •Roman Carax, a young filmmaker obsessed with documenting authentic human stories in a city that has practically abandoned traditional cinema in favor of braindances, technology that allows people to experience someone else’s recorded sensations and memories. While the world around him consumes manufactured experiences, Roman searches for something genuine. He follows other people’s lives, trying to capture their truth through his own lens. And this introduces a fascinating distinction: WHAT WE SEE THROUGH A CAMERA IS NOT NECESSARILY THE SAME AS WHAT THE PERSON HOLDING IT IS TRYING TO EXPRESS. Because photography and filmmaking aren’t simply about documenting whoever happens to be standing in front of the camera. They’re also about the emotions, memories, experiences, and intentions of the person behind it. The model is in front of the camera, but the story belongs to the person behind it. So, the first Edgerunners explores the struggle to live what matters to you. The second raises questions about authenticity and whose perspective shapes what an audience sees. Now, does any of this sound familiar? Think about the four songs we analyzed in my previous post: •Sienna - A FUTURE IMAGINED. •Like a song - A FREEDOM DISCOVERED. •Need some rest - AN EXHAUSTION ENDURED. •Burn like a cigarette - A LOSS FEARED. Isn’t that strikingly close to the emotional journey of David and Lucy? And doesn’t Roman’s perspective make us question why people assume the person in Jungkook’s photographs must also be the person the photographs are emotionally ABOUT? One last detail makes this connection even more intriguing to me: Cyberpunk 2 premiered on October 20, and Jungkook let us know he’d watched it that very day. The photographs were taken on October 22. Which brings us to a possibility worth considering: what if Jk took inspiration from Roman and chose to tell his own story through photographs of someone else, using songs that resonate so strikingly with the story of David and Lucy we know he loves so much? And maybe that’s why the words I wrote before still matter: what people THINK a picture means and what it means to the person behind the camera can be two completely different things… If you'd like to take a look, I'll leave you the link to the post I wrote about it back in August 24 😉 https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGdCvfCB2/
