As a whole, very valid statement. But some of us picked a very niche specialty that ties us to academia for our careers (for better or worse). I’m the one paging you to tell you your intubated patient on LTM EEG is in nonconvulsive status 😬

Literally my co fellow from fellowship gives me attitude on the phone when I call from the OSH ! Like okay try doing everything alone like me while your team has a fellow, 2 residents and 2 Apps, dedicated pharmacist and nurse co ordinator. Like seriously bruv !

I love being a community attending, granted I'm only 3 months in 😅. The only thing I miss is the food and having a larger group of people to gossip with.

Once academics pays me what I’m worth I’ll entertain the opportunity. Until then, I’ll stick to 1000 bed nonacademic hospital that pays me double what the university up the road does.

You can learn so much at community hospitals, because you don’t have every specialty crowding your patient and you need to manage without them.

Ohhh, Gorgeous gorgeous gurl!,, I’m SO happy I’m not in academic medicine! 😂 I love practicing in the community, having my autonomy, and not dealing with all the bureaucracy that comes with academia! And let’s not forget the PAY!!! 💰 I could neveeeeer! 😂

Did residency in a smaller rural academic center. Did fellowship in a super large, nation-leading city academic quaternary referral center. The docs were MUCH better in the rural academic center IMO. The academic docs get so lazy and dependent on consulting for EVERYTHING. Diabetes? Endo. Hyponatremia? Renal. Infection? ID. No thought process except consult. As an attending I went back to the smaller academic center!

The community doctors are literally top tier, limited resources/consultants so you learn to manage everything and so much more procedurally equipped. I trained at an academic center then left for community and it’s night and day difference
