If your child is out of status or has a removal order, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) may be a path to protect them. 🛡️ How it works: 1️⃣ A state court finds that reunification with one or both parents isn’t possible because of abuse, neglect, or abandonment, and that returning to their home country isn’t in the child’s best interest. 2️⃣ The court issues the orders needed for SIJS. 3️⃣ An I-360 petition is filed with USCIS, which can lead to a green card. ⚠️ Timing is everything. In many states, the family court process has to happen before your child turns 18. A few states, like New York and New Jersey, allow it up to 21. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
