@abcworldnews: A U.S. cruise ship on an around-the-world voyage suspended its three-year voyage in Cambodia due in part to fuel costs. The MV Odyssey's operator had offered to “make the Odyssey your permanent home,” with the purchase price of a suite for the lifetime of the vessel starting around $230,000. The ship has been carrying 203 passengers, mostly Americans, along with 156 crew members, according to Cambodian officials. It has a 650-passenger capacity. Its Florida-based operator, Villa Vie Residences, said it sought to reduce fuel consumption by slowing the itinerary and spending more time in port, but was unable to offset the surging costs.

This has nothing to do with fuel prices. If the cruise line doesn't have the money to refuel the ship there's more going on than that. Imagine Carnival, Royal Caribbean or Virgin cruise lines using this excuse. 😂😂😂

Angie :
These people bought their cabins on this ship. It was their retirement plan. They bought a cabin and sold their actual sticks and bricks homes. They also were told very quickly that the ship would no longer be sailing. It’s a very messed up situation.

the real question is, why didn't the cruise company see that fuel prices were more and turn it around before they would need to refill in Asia

LOL 203 passengers - $230k - $47M - typical cruise ships burns 150 metric tones of a fuel per day at $75k - so enough fuel for 600 days

$1,500 / metric toms A grade fuel to a Vessel in Asia today. A 24k tons cruise ship use 5-12T/hour depend on the speed and usage.. count 8 hours voyage and 16 hours stays (8T/voyage and 1t/stays per hour) it’s 56T/day it’s costs $163/day; aprox $4,800/month / cabin.
