@lightwardquest: Have you ever considered the meaning behind the names recorded in the Bible? Many biblical names are called THEOPHORIC NAMES, meaning they contain a reference to God. In ancient Hebrew, numerous names incorporated shortened forms of Jehovah’s personal name, YHWH. Consider these examples: 🔹 Yohanan (John): Jehovah has shown favor. 🔹 Yehoshua (Joshua): Jehovah is salvation. Jesus comes from the related Hebrew name Yeshua. 🔹 Eliyahu (Elijah): My God is Jehovah. 🔹 Zekharyah (Zechariah): Jehovah has remembered.Yeshayahu (Isaiah): Salvation of Jehovah. These meanings are not always apparent when we read their English forms. At Luke 1:13, the angel Gabriel instructed Zechariah to name his son John. Understanding the Hebrew meaning reveals a beautiful connection to Jehovah’s favor toward Zechariah and Elizabeth. Jehovah’s personal name appears 7,216 times in the New World Translation. But when we consider the many theophoric names throughout the Scriptures, we discover even more references to Jehovah embedded in the names of people and places. These names preserve a remarkable history that many Bible readers may never have been taught. How much more can we appreciate God's Word when we understand the meaning behind these names? Jehovah’s name is represented throughout the Scriptures—not only directly, but also within the meanings of many ancient biblical names. 📖 Luke 1:13, 58-63; Exodus 3:15; Isaiah 42:8
