I’m a math major. I skipped nearly every lecture for these classes, including a few quizzes, and did well in both classes merely because of Professor Leonard. Threw the videos on at 1.7x speed day before the exam and did better than most. He really is the goat

Take calculus at a community college. Better teachers who have more time to help you.

I’m not an engineer, but I do have a degree in Mathematics! College was HARD!! But it built stamina and resilience!! Now, I can do any damn thing!!

I'm a EE. If you're struggling with calc 1 you're in for a rude awakening. The jump in difficulty once you get to antual EE courses is brutal. Lock tf in. 😂👍

I hear what you are saying, but you are also giving universities a massive pass for subpar performance. We are being categorically priced out of education, and the quality of that education is low. Everyone can go to the library and teach themselves -- but that's not why we have university.

12 years out from undergrad as a mech Eng one thing I remember vividly is after struggling with calc 2. Calculus isn’t something you “learn” it’s something you do. All your doing is remixing ways to use calc 1. So the problems over and over and over and it will click. Differential equations (calc 3 at my college) was a breeze and so multi variate.

Nope! WIthdraw and take it next semester or over the summer. You'll start fresh with some familiarity and go in knowing you have to work hard from day 1

Calc 1 felt like a cakewalk compared to Calc 2. If you don’t start off the semester strong with Calc 2, it will be VERY VERY difficult to catch up. Not to say it wouldn’t be possible, but Calc 2 was undoubtedly the most difficult math course I’ve ever taken in college.

You have to practice math. It’s all skill based.

This is 100% it, and for what it’s worth, out of my whole ME degree, I still think calc 2 was probably the single hardest class I ever took, because once you get past the hurdle that you need to grind, everything from there on out is much easier. The pre req for calc 2 is calc 2 😉😉 you just gotta keep going LOL

I’m a chemical engineer and slept walk through cal 1 and diff eq 1. Cal 2 was way more difficult than cal 3. But diff eq 2 was beast lol

There are almost infinite, customizable and cheap or free study aids now. When I took the classes, neither the professor nor the TA spoke english (I was at a large university in the US). Math lab helped when it was open and you could get someone's time, otherwise you were on your own with the book, your notes and a prayer. You would sometimes meet an older student who could help explain things a bit better. I agree that the classes are set up as weed out classes and is completely about survival. I am glad students have more resources now with online tutorials and AI though.

My son contacted me daily about Calc 2. He loathed the class. He pulled it off though. The math classes after that were actually easier for him. The whole engineering degree is a grind. It's a degree in problem solving.

Annnndddd. All calculus is not created equal. regular calc and calc for engineers are NOT the same lol. Passed AP calc with no problems. Got to college, and wondered why I had to retake it (CompSci major) -- after that first week it was clear🤣🤣🤣
